The other shoe dropping
Sometimes you meet someone and they are perfect. And then you take your head out of the clouds and you remind yourself that nobody is perfect. However, this person continues to say and do all the right things, so you start to wait for the other shoe to drop. And it always does.
I am talking about the guy I met last Thursday. We were having a conversation last night and he very casually brings up that he has a son. A teen-aged son, he has been married before, did not work out, obviously. None of this is an issue for me. I have dated men with kids before, does not bother me one bit.
Here is the part that has be a little confused. He said his son was spending the weekend with him, and this happens once a month. Yet, this guy was out living it up all weekend. I was quick to jump in with teenagers not wanted to spend a lot of time with parents, and that he must have a weekend job, etc. But turns out that’s not the case, he said the kid spent most of the weekend home alone. What? While dad goes out and parties? I guess I am a stick in the mud, but if I had a kid and only spent one weekend a month with him, you stay home and play dad that weekend. Now I am not saying you should not have a life and sit at home making cookies…but your kid is home alone and you are not getting home until 3 am ( and I would know because he was with me until 3 am) that just does not sit well with me.
But, I am not making any rash choices. I have plans with him for Saturday, and yes I asked if his son was going to be around this weekend, turns out not. Just not sure what I can expect from this guy, and trying to keep in mind his relationship with his kid is none of my business.
We will see, but I can’t help but feel something has shifted, changed. Maybe it’s all in my head.
Anyway, the cute bartender I have been kind of flirting with is working tonight, so I guess I will go do that dance and see what’s going on there, if anything.
